Ascot Royals Swimming Club

Mission Statement

Aligned with Swim England and club welfare principles

At Ascot Royals Swimming Club, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where swimmers and coaches can develop both in and out of the water.

We believe that balanced training is key to long term success. Rest and recovery are just as important as effort and skill, and our approach supports physical wellbeing, mental health and sustainable performance in line with Swim England’s long term athlete development framework.

We recognise that high quality coaching is central to swimmer welfare and progression. We are committed to the ongoing development of our coaches through training, mentoring and reflective practice, ensuring they are supported, knowledgeable and able to provide positive, age appropriate coaching.

Through positive coaching, clear safeguarding practices and shared responsibility between coaches, parents, volunteers and swimmers, welfare sits at the centre of everything we do.

Our mission is to develop confident and resilient swimmers who enjoy the sport, progress at the right pace and achieve their potential over time, not only in competition but for life.

Passion • Progress • Potential

What Passion, Progress & Potential

mean for the Club

Passion

Creating a positive, inclusive environment where swimmers enjoy the sport, feel motivated to attend training, and develop a lifelong love of swimming. This supports retention, engagement, and positive behaviours at every stage of the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) pathway.

Progress

Supporting age- and stage-appropriate development through structured, quality coaching that builds technical skill, physical literacy, fitness, and race skills. Progress is measured through improved competence, confidence, consistency, and personal bests rather than results alone.

Potential

Developing the whole swimmer over the long term by nurturing confidence, resilience, ambition, and well-being. This enables swimmers to reach their individual potential within the LTAD pathway—whether progressing to higher performance levels or sustaining lifelong participation and success both in and out of the pool.

Values and Ethos

  • Swimmer Welfare First
The safety, wellbeing and happiness of our swimmers always come before results. We maintain strong safeguarding standards and promote positive physical and emotional development at every stage.

  • Balance and Long Term Development
We support age appropriate and well planned training that allows time for recovery, growth and enjoyment. Success is measured through steady progress and healthy participation rather than short term outcomes.

We treat everyone with respect and foster an inclusive club culture where all swimmers and coaches feel welcome, supported and valued, whatever their background or experience.

  • Positive Coaching and Learning
Our coaching approach promotes confidence, resilience and learning through encouragement, constructive feedback and positive role modelling.

  • Teamwork and Community
We work together as a club community of swimmers, parents, coaches and volunteers, recognising that shared responsibility and positive behaviour help everyone succeed.

  • Enjoyment and Lifelong Participation
We aim to inspire a lifelong love of swimming, supporting swimmers to stay active, confident and engaged with the sport well beyond competitive swimming.
